Dickinson, Jean Koontz
Jean Koontz Dickinson, 84, of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, November 5, 2008, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was born in Page County, Va., on May 30, 1924, to the late Noah Keirle and Elsie Elizabeth Strickler Koontz.
She was retired from VPI and SU after 30 years of service as a lab specialist in the Biochemistry Department. She was a volunteer for over 20 years at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Mrs. Dickinson was a long time member of North Fork Baptist Church as well as an avid golfer and traveler.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Homer C. Dickinson, of Blacksburg; son, Greg Dickinson, of Wilmington, N.C., daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Hans Bluem, of Kendall Park, N.J.; three grandchildren, Alia Dickinson, of Chapel Hill, N.C., Christopher and Patrick Bluem, both of Kendall Park, N.J.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Charlotte and Tom Blanchard, of Christiansburg, Gertrude and RT Hammer, of Elkton, Va., Joan and Ray Shifflett, of Elkton, VA, Philip and Rena Koontz, of Elkton, Va., Noah and Elaine Koontz, of Columbus, Ohio, and David and Floe Koontz, of Elkton, Va. She also leaves behind special friend to the family, Diana Fay, of Chapel Hill, N.C., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 8, 2008, at 2 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Olen Gardner officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the Blacksburg Rescue Squad, 200 Progress Street NE, Blacksburg Va. 24060.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg, 150 Country Club Drive, Blacksburg, Va. 24060.
