Homer Christopher Dickinson, 96, of Blacksburg, died on Sunday, June 19, 2011, at Heritage Hall Health Care. He was born in Booneville, Miss., on October 18, 1914, to the late LaVada Christopher and Emily Ila Scott Dickinson. He also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Jean Koontz Dickinson; brothers, Leland and Reed Dickinson; and sisters, Louise Harris and Hazel Patterson. After earning a degree in Chemical Engineering from Mississippi State University, he worked for Hercules Incorporated for over 30 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Blacksburg Lions Host Club and was a Melvin Jones Fellow recipient for humanitarian service. He was very active in the North Fork Baptist Church serving as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher and a Boy Scout Leader. He was a Veteran of World War II serving in the North Africa campaign. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Hans Bluem, of Kendall Park, N.J.; son, Greg Dickinson, of Wilmington, N.C.; three grandchildren, Alia Dickinson, of Durham, N.C., and Christopher and Patrick Bluem, both of Kendall Park, N.J.; special family friends, Diana Fay, Mae Gibson, and Michelle Bowermaster; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Fred Brugger officiating and with additional musical ministry by the Rev. Olen Gardner. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening, June 21, 2011, and again from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr., Blacksburg, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lions Club International, 300 West 22 St., Oakbrook, IL 60523-8842, for sight conservation.
