Doris June Hypes Dickerson, 83, of Blacksburg, Va., died on Sunday, November 16, 2008, in Hendersonville, Tenn., where she has lived the past two years. She was born in Mercer County, W.Va., on April 19, 1925, to the late Frazier W. Hypes and Lessie Belcher Hypes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. (Bob) Dickerson; and by three sisters, Pauline Hypes Hill, Shirley Hypes Bostic, and infant, Irene Hypes. Doris retired in 1991 from Alliant Ammunition Powder Company, formerly Hercules Powder Inc., Radford, Va., where she had worked for 39 years as an Administrative Assistant. She was a member of the Blacksburg United Methodist Church. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Robert W. and Charley Dickerson, of Gallatin, Tenn.; granddaughters, Amy Dickerson and Sara Dickerson Ray, of Nashville; stepgrandchildren, Shauna Grenead and Jeremy Hale, of Gallatin, Tenn., and Ashley Harris, of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; and six stepgreatgrandchildren. Other survivors include two sisters, Freda Jones, of Harrisonburg, Va., and Janice Surface, of Princeton, W.Va.; along with several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2008, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Reggie Tuck officiating. Visitation for friends will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blacksburg United Methodist Church, 111 Church Street, Blacksburg, Va. 24060.
