Rev. Alexander (Alex) Dewey, Jr., 83, of Blacksburg, Va. died Saturday, December 30, 2006, at Lewis-Gale Medical Center.

He was born in McDowell County, W.Va. on November 12, 1923, to the late Alexander Dewey, Sr. and Pearl Miller Day. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita S. Day. Rev. Day was a Pentecostal minister with 62 years of service for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Alexis Hamlin of Florida, Gayle and Don Linkous of Newport, Va., Aimee and Rev. John Canning, Tazewell, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Paul D. and Deborah Day of Blacksburg; ten grandchildren, Todd Linkous, Denise Linkenhoker, Stephen Linkous, Jared Hamlin, Paula, Jeremy and Shannon Day, Ashlea, Jayson, and Taylor Canning; and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, January 2, 2006, at 1 p.m. in the Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery. Friends may call anytime after 12 Noon on Monday and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, Blacksburg.
