Thomas E. Dent, 71, of Pearisburg, Virginia, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2006 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia.

He was born February 16, 1935 at Rich Creek, Virginia, and was the son of the late George W. “Buster” Dent and Bertie Dunn Dent Via. Tom started his career at A.E.P., in Glen Lyn, Va., and was transferred to Brilliant, Ohio, with a total of 14 years service, during this time he served two tours of duty with the U.S. Army. After leaving A.E.P., he became co-owner of Twin State Furniture in Peterstown, and was an employee of Sears for five years.

He was a retired Insurance Agent for Home Beneficial Insurance, a member of the Intermont Lodge #269 A.F. & A.M., in Narrows, Virginia, and loved to hunt and fish.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen L. Dent Dunford. Surviving is his wife, Dana Brabban Dent; one son, Greg A. Dent and wife, Ann of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; one brother, Donald R. Dent and wife, Gladys of Roanoke, Va.; one sister, Dixie Johnson and husband, Wilson of Roanoke, Va.; one aunt, Bethel Dent of Peterstown, W.Va.; seven grandchildren and three step grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, August 21, 2006 at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, W.Va., with the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial with Military graveside rites will follow at Birchlawn Burial Park , Pearisburg, Virginia. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, August 20, 2006 at the funeral home where a Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. by members of Intermont Lodge #269 A.F.&A.M., Narrows, Va.
