Oma June Amburgey DeHart, of McCoy passed from this life peacefully at home on Saturday, April 26, 2014. A loving mother and friend, June will be greatly missed. She was born July 14, 1932 in Dante, Va. (the Amburgey family moved to Coeburn a few years later) to the late Melvina Mullins Amburgey and John Robert Amburgey. June was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Virgil DeHart; sisters, Elva Jane Powers and Mary Avia Funk.

Survivors, a sister, Opal Geneva Salyers, Abington; a brother, Jona Silas Amburgey, Coeburn; children, Steven Lloyd DeHart and spouse Peggy R. DeHart, of Prices Fork; Mary June DeHart Nickel and spouse, John Nickel III, of McCoy; grandchildren, Helen Jadlowski, Roderick and Clark DeHart, Arlena, Diana and Austin Nickel; one sister-in-law, Jonell Johnson DeHart, Blacksburg; numerous nieces and nephews; very special friends and neighbors, Ollie Jones, Faye, Dudley and Tim Scott.

June graduated with honors from Radford College and taught elementary school until she opted to stay home to be a home maker and raise a family. June enjoyed gardening, making butter, canning and freezing vegetables, taking care of the family pets and watching over the farm animals. June is a member of Centennial Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in McCoy and she served on numerous committees during her twenty year membership. Being a coal miner’s daughter and wife, June was a very active member and past secretary of the Montgomery County Coal Mining Heritage Association.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Meretis, Sklar Goldschmidt, Grover and staffs and Good Samaritan Hospice that helped us keep our Mother comfortable and with us as long as possible. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 28, 2014 at 2 p.m. in the Centennial Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with G. Zeke Zanatos, D.M. officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until service time Monday at the Church. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
