Amanda Hazel Edwin DeHart was called to realms unknown to man on July 18, 2008, in Floyd, Va.

Amanda was the eldest daughter of six children of the late Theodore and Hazel Edwin. She attended Calfee Training School in Pulaski, Va., and Christiansburg Industrial institute. She received her B.S. degree from St. Paul’s College of Lawrenceville, Va., in 1948. She returned to Christiansburg Institute and taught for 14 years and two years at Loudoun County High School in Leesburg, Va.

Amanda was united in marriage to Thomas DeHart in April 1951 by the Rev. Frank Johnson. One child, Donald Edwin DeHart, was born to this union. She a member of the Clark’s Chapel United Methodist Church until the merger of The New Century and Clark’s Chapel United Methodist Churches becoming Randolph Ave. United Methodist Church, where she was a faithful member. She was choir member, United Methodist Women, Church Historian, Administrative Board, communion Steward, Past Vice President of the C.I.I. Alumni Association, Past Worthy Matron Order of the Eastern Star #20 and the Gem City Garden Club.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Donald Edwin DeHart (Paula), of Boontoon, N.J.; four grandchildren, Faith, Dorian, Desiree and Devyn; one niece, Phyllis Venable Thompson ,of Roanoke, Va.; and one nephew, Milton T. (Eddie) Edwin, of Pulaski, Va.

Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008, at Randolph Ave. United Methodist Church with the Rev. Leroy Henry officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from noon until the time of service. Burial will be at Pinehurst Cemetery.
