deeds jean broylesJean Broyles Deeds, 83, of Narrows, VA, passed away suddenly Friday, December 20th, 2013 in Denver, CO. She was born on October 22, 1930 in Glen Lyn, VA, the daughter of the late Haven and Pearl Skeens Broyles. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Loretta Ratcliff of Spotsylvania, VA and Kay Fleeman of Advance, NC.

Jean was a lifelong resident of Giles County, graduating in 1948 from Narrows High School. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Narrows for 64 years. During those years she served in many capacities such as past president of CWF, deacon, deaconess, served on the preschool board, and sang alto in the church choir. Her church home was a crucial part of her life and many of her lifelong friendships were rooted there. Jean and her husband, Lowell, were co-owners of the B and B Store in Narrows and Pearisburg, Virginia. Jean managed the Narrows store and delighted in getting to know her customers and making friendships with generations of families that shopped there. Always proud to be from Glen Lyn, she loved her family, her church, her community and the beautiful mountains that surrounded her home.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Lowell Deeds of Narrows, VA. Also left to cherish her memory are her four daughters, Pamela Booth (Phillip) and Patricia Thompson (Phillip), both of Southaven MS. Sheri Bush (Jim) of Newton, NH and Dawn Coleman (Brian) of Denver, CO.

Known as both Memaw and Meme, she will be greatly missed by her 9 grandchildren: Eric Thompson (Dickson, TN), Ryan Booth (Wheaton IL), Natasha Thompson Parlier (Boomer, NC), Melissa Booth Bitsky (Plainfield, Il), Lori Booth Mayer (Frisco, TX), Owen and Grace Coleman (Denver, CO), and Dori and James Bush (Newton, NH). Also left are 11 much loved great grandchildren she affectionately called “the little bitties”. Two brothers, Marvin Broyles (Sharon) of Winnabow, North Carolina and Jerry Broyles (Terri) of Ripplemead, VA. Four sisters; Evelyn Shrader of Narrows, Va., Vivian Forrester (Bob) of Reidsville, NC, Judy Butler (Coy) of Littleton, NC and Betty “Penny” Mullins (Johnny) of Mount Airy, NC and many nieces and nephews who were dear to her heart.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 29th, 2013 at 2 PM at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 605 Memorial Boulevard in Narrows, with Rev. Ed Tiller officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at First Christian Church Sunday from 12 noon until just prior to the service.
