DeChants, Rita Mae

Rita Mae DeChants, age 84, of Blacksburg died, Monday, October 27, 2014, at Showalter Center. She was born in Philadelphia, Pa. on January 21, 1930. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Gerald DeChants in 2008, great granddaughter, Danielle Mae Burmeister in 2011, parents, Bennett R. and Rosalia Christine Wigand Gibson.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Christine M. DeChants-Blaszak and Dennis B. Blaszak, of Blacksburg, sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald F. and Letha DeChants, of Lusby, MD., Michael A. and Julia DeChants, Sebastian, FL., Glenn A. and Robin DeChants , Woodbridge, VA., sister and brother-in-law, Katherine G. and R. Patrick Spoone, of Venice, FL., brothers and sisters-in-law, Mark M. and Doris Gibson, of Louisville, KY., Bennett and Jeanette Gibson, Largo, FL., twelve grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, twenty two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 10:30 am in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor Aubrey Whitlow officiating. Interment will follow in the Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg, VA.

In lieu of flowers memorial considerations may be given to Warm Hearth Foundation, 2603 Warm Hearth Drive, Blacksburg, VA 24060, or to Good Samaritan Hospice, 1160 Moose Drive, Christiansburg, VA. 24073.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm Wednesday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home 150 Country Club Dr. SW, Blacksburg.
