Dean, Betty Jane

Betty Jane Dean, 88, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, November 27, 2014, at Commonwealth Assisted Living. She was born in Pennsylvania October 21, 1926. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James W. Dean; her parents, six brothers and sisters.

She was an active member of the Blacksburg Country Club where she loved to play golf and bridge.

She is survived by her daughter, Courtney Ellen Detwiler, of Virginia Beach; granddaughters, Kari Detwiler and fianc‚, Shaun Hoover, Shannon Detwiler, Deanne Detwiler; great-grandchildren, Serenity and Jayce; her loving cat, Popsicle.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, November 30, 2014, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stephen Shackelford officiating.

Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Humane Society of Montgomery County, P.O. Box 287, Blacksburg, VA 24063.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg.
