She leaves behind her husband, Dr. David Day of Livermore, California; parents, Marilyn and Stan Kingma of Roanoke, Virginia; brothers, Dave Kingma (Athena) of Livermore, California, and Joseph Kingma (Sandy) of Daleville, Virginia, plus many extended family members.

Susan was born and lived in Blacksburg, Virginia, until her early teens, next moving with family to Vineland, New Jersey. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Family and Child Development from Virginia Tech where she was active in Campus Crusade for Christ and Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She began her Young Life Christian ministry in Northern Virginia, advancing to Area Director and continued with a similar role in Toledo, Ohio, and Chicago, Illinois.

While in Chicago, Susan earned a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College and started her counseling career as a Marriage and Family Therapist. Her passion for helping others next took Susan to Charlottesville, Virginia, where she helped start Clear River, a progressive new church. She served as the church worship leader while building her counseling practice in that community.

Moving to Livermore, California, Susan joined Community Christian Counseling, where she and her second husband, Dr. David Day, created a thriving joint counseling practice. She became a successful fashion merchandising stylist for Cabi, a clothing company with the creed “affecting lives through relationships.” Her life flourished as she deeply loved others providing life-changing experiences and healing. Susan touched hundreds of lives during her 56 years – departing this life all too soon.

A celebration of Susan’s life will be held 2 p.m. ET, Sunday, October 23, 2022, at Church of the Holy Spirit, 6011 Merriman Road, Roanoke, VA 24018. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Susan’s name to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance, www.ocrahope.org.
