Dawson, Ellen Hardy

Ellen Hardy Dawson, 62, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at New River Medical Center. She was born in Grundy, Va., on March 25, 1947, and was preceded in death by her mother, Syble Garland Hardy.

She was an avid painter and a long time member of Christiansburg Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Dawson; father, Alonza (Preacher) Hardy; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy D. and Michael Smith, all of Christiansburg, and Angie D. and J.P. Murrell, of Jefferson, Ga.; four grandchildren, Kenna Michelle Smith and Natalie Paige Smith, Meredith Ellen Murrell and John Knox Murrell; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2009, in the Christiansburg Church of Christ with the Minister Dennis Curd officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Virginia Christian Camp, P.O. Box 1136, Vinton, Va. 24179 or to the Simmons Family Fund, c/o Lake Drive Church of Christ, P.O. Box 109, Vinton, Va. 24179 to aid the Simmons family for medical expenses as their two year old battles Leukemia.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday evening, December 11, 2009, at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg, Va.
