Davis, Mary Jane Reynolds

amem_pinkroses.jpgMary Jane Reynolds Davis, of Radford, Va., devoted mother and favorite Lil’ Granny, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2009, after a short but valiant fight with cancer. Mary Jane was born January 15, 1935, in Pulaski, Va. to Bernard Fred and Mabel Wooten Reynolds.

Mary Jane married the love of her life, Garland Pierce Davis, at the age of 16. Mary Jane’s proudest accomplishments were her boys, Michael Pierce Davis and Clay Eugene Davis. Mary Jane’s life was spent encouraging her children and grandchildren to be the best that they could be and to live a happy life. Mary Jane was rich and blessed beyond belief because she surrounded herself with family and friends and cherished each moment, each life that touched hers.

Mary Jane never met a stranger and therefore spent her working life meeting as many friends as possible working as a cashier at Piggly Wiggly, then Wades Grocery. Folks would purposefully get in Mary Jane’s line just to get a big smile, a word of encouragement or the latest bit of gossip. Mary Jane poured the same love that she gave her family into her job and the folks that passed through her line took away much more than the groceries they’d purchased.

Mary Jane is predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Junior and Ray; and her husband, Garland Pierce Davis. She is survived by her sister, best friend and shopping partner, Audrey Reynolds Wolfe, her husband, Dan; son, Michael Davis and wife, Rose, son, Clay Davis and wife, Crystal; granddaughters, Gwendellynn, Grace, Hope, Cherish, Michelle and Olivia; greatgrandchildren, Barron, Bryson, Britney, Lyric, Hailey and Gabriel.

The family would like to thank the folks at Radford Nursing Home, Hospice of Pulaski County, our family at Heritage Church and all our friends, family and coworkers that have helped us through the loss of our mother.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 17, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home with the Reverend Mike Sweeney officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from noon until service hour.

To help us honor the memory of our beloved mother, Mary Jane Reynolds Davis, the family would like to encourage you to meet up with a friend or a stranger and give them a word of encouragement, be a blessing to them, give them a hug or even just a smile.
