Daniels, Elizabeth J.

Elizabeth J. (Betty) Daniels 91, of Christiansburg, Va., died peacefully on January 26, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richmond G. Daniels and Helen F. Daniels; her brother, Horace C. Daniels; and her sisters, Mary Carpenter and Joan Russo.

She is survived by her brothers, Philip Daniels (Susan), Steven Daniels (Marie), and Larry Daniels (Christine); and a sister, Ruth Daniels; also by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, and great-grandnephews.

Betty was born in Montgomery County, Maryland. She graduated from Otego (N.Y.) Central School in the class of 1948. She then graduated from what was then Philadelphia Bible Institute, before beginning her life’s work of caring for other people’s children.

She served as “House Mother” in several Christian children’s homes when they were common. They were located in Kentucky, New York, New Jersey, and North Carolina. When children’s homes became populated with older children with behavioral issues, she decided to go to Nanny School. Betty finished her work life as a nanny for families in Florida. This was a very rewarding career. In retirement she was able to contact many former wards via the internet.

She enjoyed taking pictures of her family, especially her siblings’ children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, especially as her siblings scattered across the country. She especially enjoyed a trip to the Holy Land. In retirement, she enjoyed community activities with the Senior Center; volunteering at her church – helping in the nursery, in MOPS, and serving in other functions.

Visitation will be at First Baptist Church of Radford on 3rd Ave on Saturday, January 29th at 1pm, followed by a Memorial service at 2pm. Social distancing and masks will be required.
