Truman Knox Daniel Jr., 85, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2009. He was born in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on April 26, 1924. He was preceded in death by his parents, Truman and Rosemaye Daniel; brothers, James K. Daniel and Reginald C. Daniel; and son, Gary K. Daniel. He was a Marine Veteran of World War II, a graduate of University of Alabama, he was also inducted into the Alabama Fastpitch Softball Hall of Fame in 1995. He was retired from Hercules, Inc.; he served on Christiansburg Town Council for 16 years; an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church; past President and Lt. Governor of Kiwanis Club of Christiansburg; past member of the Board of Trustees of Montgomery Regional Hospital; and past Board member of Christiansburg / Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret Shannon Daniel; daughter and sonin-law, Becky and James Pharis, of Christiansburg, Va.; grandson and wife, Nathan and Julie Daniel, of Orland, Calif.; grandson, Ryan Pharis, of Jacksonville, Fla.; granddaughter, Shannon Pharis, of Christiansburg, Va.; greatgrandson, Nicholas Daniel, of Orland, Calif.; and daughter-inlaw, Cindy Daniel, of Newbern, N.C. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2009, at St. Paul United Methodist Church with a visitation an hour before. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
