After an extended illness, Catherine Epperson Dalton, 83, of Radford, Va., went Home to be with Jesus on Friday, March 27, 2009. She was born in Patrick County, Va. to William Moses and Elizabeth Epperson on June 15, 1925.

In addition to her mother and father, Catherine was preceded in death by her only sister, Carolene Epperson Hill; and brothers, Gaston, Tom, George and William Cabel Epperson. Catherine is survived by her husband, Glenn E. Dalton; and her two children, Glenn (Woody) Dalton Jr. and Linda Johnston, who are married to Kim W. Dalton and Charles (Chuck) Johnston respectively. Catherine is also survived by Kim and Woody’s three sons, Christopher, Zachary, and Jesse Dalton. Surviving siblings are Roscoe, Arthur, and Bernie Epperson.

Catherine survived The Great Depression and World War II. She attended nursing school in Mr. Airy, N.C. and worked as a Registered Nurse most of her adult life. She was a supervisor of nurses and worked at Radford Hospital and as a Public Health nurse for the Commonwealth of Virginia for over 35 years.

She was an active and faithful member of the Fairlawn Presbyterian Church, active in the Presbyterian Women’s Circle, and a charter member/ volunteer for food distribution group (i.e., Our Daily Bread). In her later years, when her body became more frail, Catherine spent many hours in prayer, especially for her beloved grandsons. Helping and compassion were her gifts to her world all the days of her life.

A viewing will be at Fairlawn Presbyterian Church on Monday, March 30, 2009, at from 10 to 11 a.m. A memorial service will follow immediately after the viewing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Fairlawn Presbyterian Church’s Women’s Circle #2 or to “Our Daily Bread (a food pantry for the needy).
