Bertha Rakes Dalton, age 95 of Dublin passed away Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006 at Highland Ridge Rehab Center. Born Dec. 17, 1910 in Patrick County, Va., she was the daughter of the late George Lee Rakes and Alverta McCormack Rakes.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Moyer H. “Woody” Dalton; son; J.C. Dalton; daughters, Mary and Betty Dalton; grandsons, Terry Dalton and Timmy Safewright; granddaughter, Cindy Dalton Linkous; two sisters and one brother.

She was a member of the Memorial Christian Church in Draper. She enjoyed crocheting and tending to her flower gardens and houseplants. She was a dedicated Atlanta Braves fan, and kept a notebook of “stats” on each player, scores and highlights of every game until she was 86 years old. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren who were the greatest source of pride and enjoyment in her life.

Surviving are: son, Jerry Dalton and wife, JoAnn-Pulaski; daughters, Louise Dalton Bentley-Hopewell, Nancy Dalton Safewright and husband, Frank-Waldorf, Md.; daughter-in-law, Louise Weaver Dalton-Dublin; five Grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; sister, Ethel Cox-Stuart; brothers, Joseph Rakes-Dublin, Noah Rakes-Fredericksburg. Many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday 2 p.m. at Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski with Rev. Johnny Howlett officiating. Interment will follow at Newbern Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bower Funeral Chapel, 1631 Bob White Blvd, Pulaski.

The family will be meeting at the home of Jerry and JoAnn Dalton, 615 Henry Avenue, Pulaski. Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski is handling the arrangements for the family.
