Virginia Mary Currie, 92, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, June 8, 2006, at her home.

She was born in Duluth, Minnesota on November 30, 1913 to the late Gregor and Edith Lembeck Herz. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leonard J. Currie; two grandchildren, Michelle Currie and Andrew G. Joe.

She was a longtime active member at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a founding member of Blacksburg Townscape as well as a founding member of Warm Hearth Village. She was a member of AAUW, a Docent at Smithfield Plantation, and involved with the Blacksburg Library and various other community activities.

She is survived by her two daughters and son-in-law, Barbara E. Joe of Washington D.C., Betty C. and Bill Baumann of Philadelphia, Pa.; son, Bob Currie, of Delray Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Melanie E. Joe, Stephanie M. Joe, Jonathan J. Joe, Emil C. Baumann, John Currie, James Currie, Mark Currie; and two great-grandchildren, Natasha M. Joe and Andrew P. Joe.

Funeral Mass will be conducted Saturday, June 10, 2006 at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father James Arsenault officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Building Fund, 706 Harding Avenue, Blacksburg, Va. 24060, The Leonard and Virginia Currie Faculty and Development Award, or the Michelle Currie Memorial Scholarship Fund, College of Architecture and Urban studies, 202 Cowgill Hall (0205), Blacksburg, Va. 24061. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr., Blacksburg.
