Cumbee, Elsie Mae

Elsie Mae Cumbee, 82, of the Maybrook Community near Pembroke departed this life Saturday morning, April 14, 2007 at her home.

Born in the Maybrook Community of Giles County on May 10, 1924 she was a daughter of the late Arnold and Gladys Songer Dowdy. A beloved mother and grandmother, she was preceded in death by her husband William Homer Cumbee and sons, Richard and Warren Cumbee.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, William David Cumbee, of the home and Bobby Luther Cumbee of Maybrook; two daughters, Mae Louise Dowdy of Newport and Hazel Anne Warsing of Crewe; two sisters, Mary Wilson Dowdy of Newport and Reba Cumbee of Newport; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke, with burial following at Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
