William Randolph “Randy” Cromer, age 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, February 24, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, W.L. Cromer and Birtie Mae Cromer, his father and mother-in-law, Harry and Dorothy Keyes and one brother, Barry Cromer.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 43 years, Myra Keyes Cromer, children and their spouses, Jonathan (Anita) Cromer, Nicole (Greg) Thompson, Dee (Mike) Thornhill, Missy (Darrell) Musselman, Anna (Mike) Martin and special “bonus” son, C.J. Cromer. He was “Grandaddy” to 12 grandchildren, C.J., Natasha, Britany, Devin, Sara, Lexie, Megan, Will, Jacob, Rachel, Allie and Jordan as well as 11 great- grandchildren. He is also survived by 4 sisters, Linda Tucker, Vickie Berry, Brenda Jenkins, and Barabra Childs, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Randy graduated from Floyd County High School in 1966, where stories of his antics are likely still told. He served in the Virginia Army National Guard from 1966-1972. He was a hard worker, having served as a police officer for the Town of Blacksburg, Montgomery Co. and Floyd Co. Sheriff’s Departments for 15 years where he made many lifelong friends. In 1984 he made a career change and became a truck driver, and what followed would be 34 years of driving (he drove though all 48 states, Canada, and Mexico) and covered “3.2 million miles with only one accident” (and it wasn’t his fault).

He loved four wheeling- especially his annual trip to Utah, made friends everywhere he went, loved camping and all of his 4-legged friends over the years, but especially his black lab Homer. He was a proud American, great supporter of our military heroes and more than anything he loved his family. He was larger than life to us all, and we will miss him greatly, but we take comfort in knowing he professed his faith in Jesus Christ in 1992 and is now with Him in Glory.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 27, 2023 from 5-7pm at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at 1 pm at Open Door Baptist Church, with Pastor Mike Johnston officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg.

The family would like to thank Carilion Hospice, especially his nurse Becky, for their wonderful care over the past 7 months.

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:4
