John Taylor Critchfield, 74, died suddenly at his home on December 12, 2006. He was born in Akron, Ohio on November 12, 1932. He is the son of Emil Critchfield and Esther Critchfield, both deceased.

He was a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, US Army-Korea, member of the American Legion and active member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He was also a member of the Blacksburg Christian Church. John was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Critchfield; son, Steven Critchfield; and daughter, Denise Macdonald, all of Blacksburg, Va. He is also survived by daughters, Cheryl Kemp and Renee Hizer, both of Harpers Ferry, W.Va. Also surviving are grandchildren, Desiree, Johnny, Sophia, Amy, Cathy, Jamie, Kayleigh, Lauren, Patrick, and greatgranddaughter Grayce. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, smile, ability to tell a joke and love of life.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, December 17, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Blacksburg Christian Church, 240 Watson Ave., NW, Blacksburg Virginia. Private interment will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that all contributions be made to the Esther Critchfield Scholarship Fund, 841 Rocky Acres Lane, Blacksburg, Va. 24060.
