Thomas Edward Crews Jr., 61, of Pearisburg, departed this life Friday, May 8, 2009, at his home. Born in Roanoke on October 30, 1947, he was a son of the late Rev. Thomas E. Crews Sr. and Leona Loveless Crews.

Thomas was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church in Roanoke and attended First Baptist Church in Pembroke, was an employee of Hardee’s in Pearisburg, was billed as the “DJ For All Occasions”, and as a young man played trumpet for “The Co-ordinators” a Roanoke based band, and was a 1967 graduate of Lucy Addison High School in Roanoke.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Gloria Johnson Crews; his sons and daughters-in-law, Captain Keith Johnson and wife, Lisa, of the U.S. Army in Iraq, Michael Johnson, of Wytheville, Petty Officer First Class Christopher Crews and wife, Michelle, of the U.S. Navy, Great Lakes, Illinois; his brother, Richard “Ricky” Crews, of Raleigh, North Carolina; his sisters, Margaret C. Henderson (Lindsay), of Richmond, Va., Pamela Parker (William), of Richmond, Va., Roslyn Nicholas (Eugene), of Raleigh, N.C.; and his six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, May 15, 2009, at 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church in Pembroke, with the Rev. James Cooper and the Rev. T.M. Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
