David Joshua Craun, 50, of Roanoke, Va., quietly slipped out of our lives on Monday, May 24, 2010. David was born on November 17, 1959, at Fort Dix AFB in New Jersey.

The son of the late Edward K. and Suzanne C. Craun, he was also preceded in death by sisters, Donna S. and Daphne S. Craun. David is survived by two brothers, Edward A. and Daniel R. Craun; four sisters, Ann C. Moran, Denise C. McKee, Dawn C. McKee, and Diane C. McBroom; one half sister, Deborah E. Hawkins, as well as many uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

A free spirit, David never turned down the opportunity for a new adventure nor did he ever meet a stranger. He was an accomplished scuba diver, horseback rider, and auto mechanic. He held firmly to two beliefs, the Lord was his Savior and a party was just not a party without marshmallows and fireworks. His kind heart, giving nature, and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.

Special thanks are extended to Shirley, Wayne, and the staff of the Roanoke Memorial Hospital 10th Floor Intensive Care Unit for going above and beyond the call of duty in the care and concern they gave to David in his final hours.

The family has plans for a private funeral with arrangements being handled by Gardner Funeral Home in Floyd, Va.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that support be given to the Rescue Mission Ministries of Roanoke or your local SPCA.
