Thomas Jackson Cox, 77, of Draper, Virginia, passed away on Friday October 31, 2008. He was born to the late Albert and Leuana Meredith Cox of Foster Falls, Va. on December 30, 1930. Tom was married to the late Mary Sumner Cox for 55 years, with whom he enjoyed life, family, travel and ballroom dancing. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen “Kat” and two brothers, Kenny Cox and Carl Anton Cox. Tom served as a Staff Sergeant and was a veteran of the US Army Medical Corps in Germany during the Korean War. Tom was manager of Pless Furniture Store for 20 years before opening Tom Cox Home and Office Supply, Inc. on Main St. Downtown Pulaski. Tom was a businessman on Main St. for over 40 years, where he was Past President of the Merchants Council, Chamber of Commerce and several other business organizations, as well as Pulaski Rotary Club secretary for 34 years, having been awarded the Paul Harris Fellow Award for his many years work and dedication to his dearly loved Rotary Family. Tom attended Draper’s Valley Presbyterian Church. He leaves to cherish his memory three children, Donna Cox Scalise and husband, Eric, of Lynchburg, Gary Cox, Milwaukee, Wis., Barry Cox, Dublin; four grandchildren, Matt Scalise, USMC and wife, Rachel, of Charlottesville, Josh Scalise, USMC, Virginia Beach, Caleb Cox, Wytheville, Ellen Cox, Draper; one great-grandchild, Harley Grace Scalise; one sister, Celene Gross, Marion; three brothers, Olin Cox and wife, Margaret, Pulaski, Mike Cox and wife, Liz, Pulaski, Clyde Cox and wife, Helen, Marion. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 7, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the Draper’s Valley Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with Radford V.F.W. Post #776 conducting the military graveside rites. Visiting will be Thursday evening from Stevens Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rotary Club of Pulaski or to Polio-Plus, P.O. Box 471, Dublin, Va. 24084 earmarked for the eradication of polio for a polio free world. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski.
