Cox, Thelma Moore

Thelma Moore Cox, 90, of Radford, Va., passed away on Friday, December 4, 2009, at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. She was born on March 11, 1919, in Dry Valley, Va., to the late Hamilton Lee and Gracie Ann Moore.

While attending college, she worked at Perfater Funeral Home. Upon graduation from Radford Women’s College she taught school in a one room schoolhouse in Riner. After she married and began her family, she started baby-sitting in her home which spanned over 40 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carrol N. Cox; infant son, Hamilton Lee Cox; four brothers, Rollie Moore, Garnie Moore, Sim Moore, and Leslie Moore; two sisters, Dorothy Moore, and Annie “Polly” Moore; and granddaughter, Mary Grace Morris. Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Bove, Judy and Keith Crowder, Becky and Chuck Morris, and Sandy and Greg Howard; grandchildren, Andrew Crowder, Chuck Crowder, Grayson Howard, Alex and Autumn Howard, Charlie Morris, Chance Morris, and Buzz Morris and Kelli.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2009, at DeVilbiss Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 6, 2009, at Radford Church of Christ with Mr. Larry Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Capt. George Quesenberry Cemetery.
