Cox, Ossie Marie Pettry
Ossie Marie Pettry Cox, 82, of Indian Valley, Va., passed away on Monday, September 29, 2008. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, canning and taking care of her family.
She was well known for her homemade fried apple pies. She was married to Cline Cox who preceded her in death in 2006. She was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her.
Ossie is survived by her daughter, Sue Camden; and son-in-law, Dan, of Roanoke; her son, Roger; and daughter in-law, Faye, of Indian Valley; grandchildren, Eric and Meagan Waren, of Matthews, N.C., Matthew and Amanda Cox, of Tega Cay, S.C., and Dawn Farrell, of Salem; great grandchildren, Elliott, Alex and Chacey Cox, Hannah and Thomas Farrell; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pauline and Hanford Goad, and Eugenia and Ken Hall; sisters-in-law, Nobie Rorick, Addie Pettry, and Cecilia Pettry; and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by brothers, Willie, Maltbie, Roy, Harry, and Larry Pettry; sisters, Imogene Reese, Guida Roop, and Bertie Anderson; and a brother and sister who died in infancy.
The funeral will be held 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2008, at Maberry Funeral Home in Floyd with the Rev. Kenneth Poston and the Rev. James Walker officiating. Interment will follow at the Cox Cemetery in Dugspur. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 125 Arrowhead Trail, Christiansburg, Va. 24073. The family would also like to thank Judy Bryant and all of the caretakers at Oak Haven and Skyline Manor of Floyd for the wonderful care they gave her.
