Beatrice Alice Cox, 96, of Blacksburg, died on May 24, 2012, at the Kroontje Health Care Center in Blacksburg. She previously lived at Showalter Center with her husband, Don Carlos Cox, who passed away in 2001.

Bea was born February 15, 1916 in War, W.Va. and spent most of her life residing in McDowell County, where she worked. She retired from the State of West Virginia Health Department, where she served as clerk. After retirement she moved with her husband to Blacksburg.

Bea was preceded in death by her husband, Don (John) Cox, as well as her parents Tom and Maggie Wingo. She had one sister and several brothers who preceded her in death. The only living survivors are her nieces, nephews and several special friends. Bea had no children of her own though she loved her family as if they were her children. She was a special lady who will be missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Mausoleum at Birchlawn Memorial Gardens in Pearisburg. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. conducted by her nephew, Pastor John Altizer from Trinity Baptist Church in Christiansburg.
