Shirley Gray Coulter, age 85, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2020, while resting at his home in Lindside. He was born November 21, 1934, to Frank and Martha “Ollie” Coulter. Shirley was retired from Celanese having been employed there for 38 years. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran and a long-time active member of the Lighthouse Church of God in Union, WV.

He had many pastimes and hobbies throughout his life. In younger days, he and Donna enjoyed motorcycling. He was also an avid camper until his death. Shirley was an accomplished, self-taught, carpenter and wood worker. He was a serious trout fisherman and hunter, particularly turkey. As an avid gardener and beekeeper, he supplied his friends and family with honey and produce until last summer. Also, he enjoyed cars and had restored two 1966 Fords over the years. In his latter years, he enjoyed his annual trip to Kentucky, eating at the Lindside Senior Center, and following in Donna’s footsteps by frequently visiting residents and staff of the Springfield Center.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Donna Booth Coulter; brothers, Dan, Howard, Gilmer, and Conard. Survivors include one son, Jamey Coulter of Princeton, WV; his twin brother, Bobby Coulter and wife Alicia of Lindside, WV; grandson, Robert Gray Coulter and wife Jennifer, and great grandchild, Brody Coulter, all of Peterstown, WV.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM on Friday, January 17, 2020, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Mike Smith and Rev. Jim Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Bradley Cemetery in Lindside, WV. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of services on Friday at the funeral home. Joey Hazelwood, Linwill Booth, Jimmy Williams, Mike Hines, Jerry Ellis, and Larry Lyons will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Lighthouse Church of God in Union, WV (455 Main Street, Union, WV 24983 ) and the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (901 E. Street NW – Suite 100, Washington, DC, 20004-2025).
