Anne Gill Coughlin, 71, of Charlottesville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 16, 2018, surrounded by family in Richmond, Va., following a long course of Alzheimer’s disease.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she is remembered for her kindness, generosity of spirit, and devotion to her family and community. Warm of heart, she had a radiant personality, an infectious laugh, and a scintillating wit. A lifelong and fervid educator, Anne was a longtime teacher in the Albemarle County School system and served as principal at Western Albemarle High School for 14 years.

Born in Roanoke, Va., on November 16, 1946, Anne grew up in Radford, Va., and graduated from Radford College. She obtained her Master’s from the University of Michigan, and her Doctorate from the University of Virginia, where she met and married her husband of 35 years, Lloyd Allen Flanigan.

She is survived by her devoted and adoring husband, Lloyd; sons, Michael and Joseph Flanigan; daughters, Jennifer Barbuto and Elizabeth Christensen; grandson, Luke Christensen; sisters, Mary Grady, Margaret Johnson, Elizabeth Daniels, Kathryn Starke, Alice Coughlin, and Judith Coughlin; and brother, James “Jay” Coughlin. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Hill and Kathryn Haley Coughlin.

A visitation will be held this Sunday, June 24, 2018, from 3 until 5 p.m. at Teague Funeral Home, followed by a Catholic funeral mass on Monday, June 25, 2018, at 1 p.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Charlottesville.
