Cottman, Glenice Mills

On Sunday, March 11, 2007, Glenice Mills Cottman heard the call of our Lord and entered into eternal rest. She was born February 14, 1927 in Pulaski, Va.

Glenice was one of three children who blessed the lives of the late Robert Lee Mills and Cora Lee Isom Mills. Her sister, Annie Mills also preceded her in death.

Glenice was educated at the Christianburg Institute. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from A & T University, Greensboro, N.C. Her teaching career began in 1959 at Carver Elementary in Salem, Va. She later taught at Pinkards Court Elementary School and Clearbrook Elementary in Roanoke County. She retired from the career she loved after 37 years of nurturing and stimulating the minds of children.

She was united in marriage to John Earl Cottman. To this union one daughter, Janice Karen was born. Glenice accepted Christ at an early age, attending church with her parents and sibling. After relocating to the Roanoke area, she joined St. Paul Methodist Church where she remained a loyal and valued servant of God.

Her artistic talent adorned the entrances and bulletin boards of her beloved church. She was a member of the Roanoke County Retired Teachers Association, the Coffee Club, Socialites Club, A & T Alumni Association, Roanoke Alumnae Chapter Delta Signa Theta, Inc.

Those left to mourn and cherish her memory are her daughter, Janice Wade (Eric); one brother, James Clarence Mills, Sr. Plainsfield, N.J.; one aunt, Marie Lott, Baltimore, Md.; one niece, Kimberly C. Mills; two nephews, James C. Mills, Jr. (Yvette) and John C. Mills (Angie); three great-nieces, four great-nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2007 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev Kent Jeter officiating. The interment will be in Williams Memorial Park.
