Ranny Copenhaver, 71, of Crockett, Va., passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2022, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born on February 1, 1951, in Wythe County, Va., he was the son of the late William “Bill” and Emma Marsh Copenhaver.

Ranny graduated in 1969 from Rural Retreat High School. He attended Wytheville Community College and Virginia Tech where he graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor degree in science. He received his teaching certificate from Radford University where he also completed graduate work. He taught school in Pulaski and Wythe Counties for over forty years. He taught with the Upward Bound program for several years at WCC. He loved his family more than anything.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, James Kelly and Gladys Marsh.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carolyn Keen Copenhaver of the home; one son, Kelly R. Copenhaver of the home; also his companion, Ellie Mae Copenhaver. He is also survived by special cousins, Larry and June Williams, numerous other cousins, four sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 20, 2022, 5 p.m. at the Berea Christian Church with the Rev. Donn Sunshine and Terry Burgess officiating. Burial will follow at the Berea Christian Church Cemetery. Larry Williams, Kevin Marsh, Alfred Rosenbaum, Hunter Rosenbaum, Holden Rosenbaum and James Stitt will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends following the interment.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests the following for donations, Berea Cemetery Fund, The Wythe County Humane Society, The Heart and Lung Association, the Down Syndrome Association of the NRV and the Epilepsy Association of Southwest Va.
