Copenhaver, Henry Barns
Henry Barns Copenhaver passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 24, 2013, at Warm Hearth’s Kroontje Health Care Center in Blacksburg. He was 92. Born to Henry Baker and Paula Fern Spencer Copenhaver on September 20, 1920, in Pounding Mill, he was predeceased by his parents, his son, Robert Jackson, and by his sister, Fern Barban, and brothers, William Pierce, Jackson Spencer, and Paul Milford. He is survived by his wife, Cornelia Harris Brawner Copenhaver, of Blacksburg; a stepson, Elwin I. Brawner, of Bald Head Island, N.C.; and three grandchildren, William Matthews Brawner, of Raleigh, N.C., Melissa Brawner Reis, of Richmond, Elizabeth Whitney Brawner, of Bald Head Island, N.C.; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Copenhaver was a 1941 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and served in the United States Army in Europe in World War II. He retired following 40 years of service with the Federal Land Bank and was a past-CEO of Farm Credit in Roanoke. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 29, 2013, at McCoy Funeral Home at 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg.
