amem_songbird.jpgBetty Harman Cooper, 82 of Pearisburg, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening, January 4, 2012 at Country View Assisted Living in Peterstown, W.Va.. Mrs. Cooper was born on June 4, 1929, in Crumps Bottom, W.Va., and was a daughter of the late William Edward Harman Sr. and Esther Simpkins Harman.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Ralph Woodrow Cooper; and one sister, Lucille Harman Crawford.

Mrs. Cooper was a graduate of VPI in Blacksburg, was a retired chemist at the Celanese Corp. in Narrows with over 30 years service, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg.

She is survived by one beloved brother and sister-in-law, W.E. “Bill” Harman Jr. and wife, Alice Jo, of Narrows; one brother-in-law, Harry L. Crawford of Atlanta, Ga.; special niece Ann Harman and another special niece, Nan Robillard; nieces and nephews, Marvin and Gloria Cooper, Peggy and Bill Hollar, Anna Mae Croy, and Susan Richards; and several great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012, at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg, with the Rev. Dr. Fred L. Austin officiating, with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Givens Funeral Home Friday evening.
