cook morris jamesMorris James Cook, 84, of Christiansburg, died Friday, February 10, 2012, at the Virginia Veterans Hospital in Salem. Mr. Cook served in the United States Army retiring as a Sergeant First Class after 23 years. Mr. Cook received the Silver Star, Bronze Star and the Purple Heart while serving in the Army. He served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He then worked and retired from the United States Post Office after 20 years of service. Mr. Cook was preceded in death by his father, Frank Cook; mother, Olivia B. Cook; brothers, Charles “Mack” McDonald, Edgar Cook and Herbert Cook. He is survived by his wife, Eva Jean Johnson Cook; daughters and spouse, Barbara J. and Reggie Jones, of Christiansburg, Marjie A. Henry, of Virginia Beach; close family friend, Stephen J. Henry; grandchildren, Jimmy Willis, of Christiansburg, Chris and Cassie Henry, of Virginia Beach; great-grandchildren, Chris Willis, Robbie Willis, Kaylee Willis, Caleb Henry, and Nathan Henry. He is also survived by his brother, Raymond “Ick” Cook, of Edgewater, Md.; sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Bob Phares, of Circleville, W.Va.; sisters-in-law and husbands, Shirley and Frank Hall, of Staunton, Helen and Larry Smith, of Georgia; brothers and their wives, Harry and Dolly Johnson, Bill Johnson, all of Staunton, and Frank Johnson, of Lexington. The family will receive friends in the Mausoleum at Roselawn Memorial Gardens from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2012. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Kingrea officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Virginia Veterans Hospital, 1970 Roanoke Blvd., Salem, VA 24153.
