Cook, Martha Phillips

Martha Phillips Cook (Marty), 73, of Mt. Gilead, passed away Aug.14 2023, at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh. Marty was born Dec. 3, 1949 to Victor Genice Phillips and Edith Phillips in Blacksburg, Virginia.

She graduated from Blacksburg High School in 1968. She retired from Stanly Regional Hospital in 2011 where she worked in the medical records department. Marty was an excellent cook and enjoyed trips to Myrtle Beach, watching old movies and getting together with family members. She especially doted on her two grandchildren, Sterling and Corbin Cook. She also had a close connection to her Blacksburg High School 1968 classmates and never missed a reunion.

She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her long time fiancé, Floyd T. Lefler III (Champ); sons, Tom Cook (Wendy), Tim Cook (Mandi) and Terry Cook; sister, Debbie Shrewsberry; brothers, Don Phillips (Va nessa), Terry Phillips and Ken Phillips; and her two grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held in the future for family and friends.
