Conlon, Marian Rita

Marion Rita Conlon, 90, of Pearisburg, Va., departed this life on Wednesday afternoon, October 31, 2007 at Montgomery Regional Hospital after a protracted illness.

Born in New Britain, Conn. on September 22, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Clerkin Durham. Rita served her community as a nurse, with special work in hospice services, and served her Lord as a long-time member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Pearisburg and later at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Christiansburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank A. Conlon; her son-in-law, David Walker; her brother, Ben Durham; and her sister, Kathryn Hodge.

She leaves to cherish her memory a beloved daughter, Maureen C. Walker of Pearisburg; three adored grandchildren, Lee and wife, Emily W. Walker, of Christiansburg, Steven and wife, Mary Walker, of Summerville, S.C. and Katie and husband, Derek Tharaldson, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; five great-grandchildren, Abigail Walker, Grant Walker, Reagan Walker, Grace Walker and Nikolaus Tharaldson; and dear friends, Connie Shuff and Dottie Manos.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at 3 p.m. in The Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with Father John Prinelli officiating. Burial will be at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens in Rome, Ga. on Monday, November 5, 2007 at 10 a.m. with Father James Miceli officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the services on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Holy Family Roman Catholic Church at 516 Mason Court Drive in Pearisburg, Va. or to Our Lady of Perpetual Care Hospice House in Atlanta, Ga. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date.
