Compton, Alice Costigan

Alice Costigan Compton, of Williamsburg, Va., passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2008 in Williamsburg, Va. She was born on March 6, 1922 in Christiansburg, Va. and lived there for many years before moving with her husband, Lonza Compton, to Alexandria, Va. in 1961. Alice and Lonza had moved to Williamsburg within the past year to be near family.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Alice was happily married for 69 years. She loved her family, her flower gardens, and her church, Calvary Baptist Church, where she was a member and Sunday School teacher for many years, and where she was blessed with many friends. Alice never met a stranger, and those who met her spoke of her sweetness and kindness.

She is survived by her husband Lonza, of Williamsburg; a son, Daniel Compton and wife Judy of Williamsburg; a daughter, Joyce Robinson and husband Larry of Sherman, Texas; two grandsons, Neil Compton of Malvern, Pa., and Matthew Robinson and wife Christy of Lubbock, Texas; a granddaughter, Amy Robinson of Sherman, Texas; a great-granddaughter, Sophia Robinson of Lubbock, Texas; two sisters, Betty Britt of Salem, Va., and Margaret Spangler and husband, Billy of Winter Park, Fla.; a brother, Robert Costigan of Marion, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Monday, March 10, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Everly Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 Braddock Rd. in Alexandria, Va., with funeral services following at 11:30 a.m. at the same location. Interment will follow at National Memorial Park, 7400 Lee Highway, Falls Church, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation.
