combs ivory maeIvory Mae Combs, 93, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, November 8, 2013. She was born September 12, 1920, in Carroll County, a daughter of the late Frank J. and Alley Phillips Montgomery. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wesley B. Combs; son, Jerry Combs; daughter, Shelby Hall; brothers, Carlos, Ernie, and Billy Montgomery; sisters, Loraine Janney, Bessie Huff and Rosie Phillips; son-in-law, Darrell Burton. Mrs. Combs was a homemaker and a loving wife and mother. She was a member of Roanoke Valley Cathedral of Praise Church of God where she taught Sunday school for 38 years. She loved to quilt and was a member of the Caleb Club. She is survived by three sons, James Combs and wife, Bertie, Wesley J. Combs and wife, Joyce, and Bobby R. Combs and wife, Martha; daughter, Janice Burton; brothers, Willy Montgomery and Dorsey Montgomery; sisters, Sylvia Turpin and Lucille Gallimore; 24 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, November 11, 2013, at the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, Salem, with Pastor Harry Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Captain George Quesenberry Cemetery in Floyd County. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
