Virginia Katherine Myers Collins, 80, of Pembroke, departed this life Saturday morning February 5, 2011 at the home of her daughter in Bedford, Virginia after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was surrounded by her loving family and in their devoted care as she went to be with her Savior.

Virginia was born in Giles County on May 23, 1930. She was a strong follower of Jesus Christ and was baptized at the Bozoo Christian Church in Peterstown, W.Va. In her later years she was a faithful member of Colonial Baptist Church in Blue Ridge, Va. She was a faithful and loving housewife, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and a friend who cherished her family.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of thirty-four years, Frank “Fonzie” Collins, her mother and father, William Jackson and Virgie May Myers, her brother, Bobby Myers, her half-sisters, Gladys Hall, Mabel Keffer, Abert Walls, Marie Cook, half-brothers, William Myers and Newton Myers.

She leaves to cherish her memory her eight children and their spouses, Charles and Darlene Collins of Maben, W.Va., Linda and Wayne Southern of Appomattox, Charlotte and the late Don Hodges of Richmond, Kathy and Ray Pyles of Pearisburg, Donna and Marvin Wilson of Pembroke, Larry and Alisa Collins of Narrows, Michael Collins of Pembroke, Robin and Doug Campbell of Bedford; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and a close family friend, Brenda Mitchell of Pembroke. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her family and her many friends.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with Pastor John Dooley of Colonial Baptist Church in Blue Ridge and Pastor Eddie Kendall of Bethel Chapel in Narrows officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
