Collins, Shelby Jean

Shelby Jean Collins, 72, of Pembroke and Christiansburg, departed this life Friday, April 8, 2011, at Lewis Gale Hospital Montgomery in Blacksburg. Born in Giles County on January 3, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Mirent Levi and Druzilla Radford Johnston.

She was a member of Pembroke Christian Church, where she served as assistant pianist and Deaconess, and was retired from the Celanese Plant at Narrows, and enjoyed her work as a Home Interior Consultant.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Marion H. Collins, her brothers, Billy B. Johnston and his wife Dorothy, Marcus Matthew Johnston, and James McArthur Johnston.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Timothy Hayes Collins, Donna and Jerry McCormick, Diana and Billy Lyons, Travis and Laura Collins; her grandchildren Nicholas M. Stewart, Matthew S. Cooper, and Carrie Collins; her sisters-in-law, Liz Johnston and Jeannie Johnston.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke, with Pastor Eddie Kendall and Pastor Gary Poff officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.
