Collins, Robert Lee

Robert Lee Collins, 77, of Pembroke, Va., departed this life on Tuesday morning, January 18, 2011, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Va. Born in Hoges Store, Giles County, on April 8, 1933, he was a son of the late Rassie and Mary Williams Collins. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Rassie Jr., Marshall, Richard and Clide Collins; and two sisters, Susie Caldwell and Mamie Merrix.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 49 years, Mary K. Collins; two sons, Graydon Lee Collins, of Pembroke, and Jerry Collins and wife, Dorothy Stump Collins, of Christiansburg; one daughter, Kimberly C. Walters and husband, Mike, of Radford; four sisters, Eloise Martin, of Pembroke, Virginia Collins, of Pembroke, Josephine Dowdy, of Pearisburg, and Marie Janney, of Pearisburg; two brothers, Clinton Collins, of Newport, and Elmer Collins, of Pembroke; two grandchildren, Brandon Thomas Lee Collins and Lyndsey Ellen Walters; and his best friends, John Irvin Snider, Jeff McKinney, and Charlie Combs.

The family would like to send special thanks to all the doctors and nurses at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, VICU/VCU and to the nurses at Heritage Hall for taking such good care of Dad.

Funeral Services will be conducted 3 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2011, in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with burial following in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening, January 20, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m.
