Collins, Hessie Jane

Hessie Jane Collins, 105, of Pembroke, departed this life Thursday morning, February 22, 2007 in the care of her family and Pulaski Health and Rehab. Center in Pulaski.

Born in Floyd County on June 5, 1901 she was a daughter of the late Abraham and Delia Harris. She was a member of Pembroke Christian Church and had been an employee of Williams Department Store in Pembroke.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Omar Maxwell Collins; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Jane and Bill Cumbee; a granddaughter, Sheryl Cumbee; grandson Stanley Cumbee; and a son-in-law Robert Ballard.

She leaves to cherish her memory a stepdaughter, Rachel Collins Ballard of Pearisburg; grandchildren, Robert Ballard, Jr., of New Jersey, Michael Ballard of Christiansburg, Steve Ballard of Norfolk and Rick Ballard of Charlotte, N.C.; seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, February 26, 2007 at 11 a.m. in The Kendall Funeral Home Chapel at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with Pastor Eddie Kendall and Pastor E C Redmond officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
