Collins, Douglas Minor

Douglas Minor Collins, 77, of Walnut Road, Pembroke, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, April 10, 2012, at Carilion Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg after a long illness. Born in Giles County on June 28, 1934, he was a son of the late Minor Lee and Virginia Bailey Collins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Douglas M. Collins Jr. and Kenneth Randall Collins; his brothers, “Jackie” Marshall Collins and Arnold J. “Shorty” Collins; and his sister, Shirley Mae Collins. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of over 57 years, Thelma Lang Collins; his sons, Danny Ray Collins, of Pembroke, Donald Lee Collins of Blacksburg, and Michael Lee Collins, of Pembroke; his daughter, Linda Sue Collins, of Pembroke; his brothers, J. E. “Pete” Collins, of Staffordsville, and C. E. “Deanie” Collins, of Pembroke; his sister, Joyce Ann Collins, of Blacksburg; his 10 grandchildren and his five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke, with burial following in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
