Clyde E. Collins, age 87, died Monday, July 30, 2007 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Formerly of Christiansburg, Virginia, he was born December 26, 1919, in Montgomery County, the son of Archie Brent Collins and Mary Malinda Epperly.

Affectionately known as “Chopper” to all his friends, he was a loving husband, father and friend. He was Post Master in Christiansburg from 1949 to 1973, retiring in 1973.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 44 years, Mary Jo Galloway, of Radford, Virginia, a son, Terry T. Collins, of Kernersville, NC, a sister, Mabel B. Willis of Roanoke, and a brother, Claude R. Collins of Roanoke.

He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Christiansburg for many years. He was an avid golfer and fan of Virginia Tech Athletics.

Survivors include one son, Tim Collins, of Advance, North Carolina, two grandchildren, Michael Collins and wife, Andreia and Brent Collins an wife, Lori all of Mocksville, NC and three great grandchildren, Mary Cloyce Collins, Samuel Duncan Collins and Conner James Collins, all of Mocksville, NC.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 Wednesday, Aug. 1 at the Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg, VA. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at St. Paul United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. David Goodpasture. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
