Cole, Mary Louise Clement
Mary Louise Clement Cole, of Radford, Va., died on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at the Kroontje Health Care Center surrounded by her family. She was a native of Radford, Va. She was a long time member of her church, Grove United Methodist, where she served on the Altar Guild and taught Vacation Bible School. She was also active in her community as a volunteer at Radford Community Hospital. During her daughters’ younger years, she served as a Girl Scout Leader. She was a graduate of Radford College where she majored in Home Economics. Louise was devoted to her family and continued to teach them valuable life lessons as she faced the challenges of Alzheimer’s in the final years of her life. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Homer H. Cole Jr. They were co-owners of Jackson’s Hardware, a local business in Radford for many years. The family built and enjoyed a cabin on Claytor Lake which was a place of many happy memories for them. Louise was also predeceased by her parents, Harry and Florence Clement; two sisters, Helen (Pat) Clement and Juanita (Mickey) Clement; a brother, Warren Clement; and her grandson, Jeffrey Aker. She is survived by her five children, Susan and Archie Graham, Emily Jane Williams, Anne and Don Aker, Kristin and Ronnie Abernathy, and Michael and Sharon Cole; and brotherin-law, Bennett and Liz Cole. Visitation will be held at DeVilbiss Funeral Home in Radford on Friday, June 18, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Grove United Methodist Church. Dr. Richard Worringham will officiate. The family would like to offer heartfelt appreciation to Louise’s loving caregivers, Ruth Moore; the staff at the Kroontje Health Care Center; and Good Samaritan Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Grove United Methodist Church (children’s department), the Warm Hearth Foundation or Good Samaritan Hospice, Christiansburg.
