coil cerrie crewsCerrie Crews Coil, formerly of Blacksburg, passed away quietly on Monday, September 2, 2013, of natural causes. She was 91. She is survived by her daughter, Janet and son, Don. Her daughter, Barbara, passed away in 2009. Cerrie leaves eight grandchildren, Christopher, Abigail, Sean, Eilyn, Robin, Sara, Sam and Jim; as well as two great-grandsons, Michael and Nathan. A great-granddaughter will be welcomed by grandson, Chris and wife, Hayley, in the fall. Cerrie’s family includes sister, Louise and husband, Redding Thompson, of Nashua, N.H.; sister, Charlotte Beamer, of Blacksburg; her late brother, George Crews and his surviving wife, Virginia, and their families. Born Cerrie Cridlin Crews in Saxe, Cerrie was an original employee of GEICO Insurance in Washington, D.C. She married Emory Alfred Coil in 1948 and lived throughout the country before settling in Los Angeles where they resided for 30 years, relocating to Blacksburg for retirement. The couple traveled extensively throughout the world. After Emory’s passing, Cerrie continued her travels, joined by sister Charlotte Beamer, often with Sunshine Tour Group. Cerrie maintained an active social network in Blacksburg, including the Virginia Tech Sports Club, Blacksburg Methodist Church, the Virginia Democratic Party and other organizations. She was a devoted Hokie fan. She will be interred at the family cemetery in Saxe at a time yet to be arranged.
