Terrie is also survived by many loving in-laws, nieces, and nephews, and many wonderful friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Susanna Gabriel; and her brother, Stephen Gabriel. Terrie fought her battle against cancer for six years, and beat the survival odds time and time again. She was determined to be a mother to her daughters and a wife to her husband as long as she possibly could. She was very appreciative of the loving support from her husband, daughters, friends and family. She would like to especially thank Dr. Saul and Dr. Richards for the care she received. Terrie’s Roman Catholic faith was very important to her, and she was deeply devoted to promoting Catholic elementary education. She had taught in the St. Mary’s pre-school and was a supporter of St. John Neumann Academy in Blacksburg. Terrie worked for several years with The Edge middle school religious education program at St. Mary’s. Terrie was a member of the community of Discalced Carmelites of Salem, Va. Terrie studied drawing at Parsons and graduated with a BFA in Painting from Pratt Institute of New York. She continued with her art and later received a Masters in Fine Arts from Hollins University. Terrie felt very grateful and privileged to have her education in art. Terrie was a wonderful artist, and loved to draw and paint in many mediums, including oils, watercolor, and pencil. Her art informed every aspect of her life, and she was especially interested in the connection between science and art. Terrie studied the science and art of color, and surrounded herself and her family with art in every nook and corner of their home. A Funeral Mass for Terrie will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2011, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1205 Old Mill Road, Blacksburg, Va., and Father Remi Sojka will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens of the New River Valley, Blacksburg, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Mother’s Garden will be gratefully appreciated. The family will receive family and friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening, June 24, 2011, at McCoy Funeral Home. A Rosary Prayer Service from 7:30 to 8 p.m. will follow immediately.
