John David Coffey, 74, of Riner, Va., passed away on Monday, December 1, 2008. He was born to the late Stanley Grayson Coffey and Lydia Shelor Coffey. He is survived by sister, Maedell C. Millirons; and brother-in-law, Raymond; nephew, Steven R. Millirons and wife, Anna; niece, Beth Willoughby and husband, Rick; and special great-niece, Rachel Grayson Millirons.

Mr. Coffey, a veteran of the Korean War, served in the army and worked in the office of the Judge Advocate General in Seoul Korea. Mr. Coffey resided in the Riner community for most of his life. He was a life-long member of Sidney United Methodist Church, serving as a caretaker for many years. Mr. Coffey was an avid gardener and woodworker. He operated a small greenhouse for 22 years and was a familiar face at the Radford Farmers Market.

The family would like to thank Dr. Roche, Kathy Finney, and the caring staff at Carilion Cancer Center for providing care throughout his illness. The family would especially like to thank Judy Epperly and the staff at Beulah House for providing all the comforts of home during the past few months.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, at the Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2008, in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Waller officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery, Radford.
