Sammy Kaye Cockran of Floyd, 68, passed away March 14, 2016. He was born March 16, 1948, to the late James Abraham Cockran and Elizabeth Doka Payne Cockran. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in Vietnam, he was also a lifetime construction worker.

He is survived by his two sons, Mark Cockran of Indian Valley, K.C. Cockran of Vinton; stepson, Jimmy Bayse of Troutville; grandchildren, Hunter and Jaden Cockran, Haley, Gage, and Lacey Cockran; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Cathy Cockran of Floyd; three sisters, Anne Price of Graham N.C., Nettie Cox of Floyd, Betty Griffith; and brother-in-law, Richard Griffith of Floyd.

Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday March 17, at Gardner funeral home chapel with the Rev. Leon Wood officiating. Interment will follow in Lee Cemetery, Tuggles Gap, Va., with Military Graveside Rites by VFW Post # 7854 and American Legion Post # 127.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. Thursday March 17, at Gardner Funeral Home where the visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m.
