Coburn, Colleen Ann

Colleen Ann Martin Coburn, 76, of Narrows, went to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Sunday, January 1, 2012, after suffering a long illness. A lifelong resident of Giles County, she was born July 16, 1935, to the late Jesse and Mae Martin of Monte Vista (Hungry Hollow).

In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Melvin Martin; a sister-in-law, Dewana Martin; and a grandson, Marshall Lee Thurber.

She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Marshall Allen Coburn; a son, Barry Coburn and wife, Lesli, of Wilmington, N.C., two stepdaughters, Debbie Harris, of Roanoke, and Amy Coburn, of Peterstown, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Sara Beth Coburn, Samantha Harris, Marcus Byrd and Katty Byrd; five brothers, Wayne Martin and wife, Carol, of Pearisburg, Roger Martin and wife, Virginia, of Narrows, Oakley Martin and wife, Elizabeth, of Narrows, Gary Martin, of Radford, Harry Tabor and wife, Nancy ,of Sandston; nieces and nephews, Tony and Todd Martin, of Pearisburg, Allen Martin, of Narrows, Lenny, Michael and Christopher Martin, of Narrows, Scott Martin, of Radford, and Christopher Tabor, of Richmond.

Her family would like to thank Carilion Hospice Service of the New River Valley, Riverview Baptist Church, and her devoted friends for their loving care during her illness. She also wanted to thank her friends from the quilting circle and choir from Riverview Baptist Church. She would have kissed each of you goodbye if she could have. She also wanted to thank her caregiver, Omara Saavedra, of Narrows, for her patience and tender care administered faithfully during her last two years. She also wanted to thank her sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Martin, Carol Martin, Nancy Tabor, brother-in-law Harry Tabor, and daughter, Debbie Harris, for their faithfulness and care when she needed it most; and all who helped her, to name just a few, Roger and Betty Jo Browning, Brenda and John Riley, Maxcine Carter, Cindy and Darny McCroskey. You’ve eased her suffering when others could not.

She was a devoted wife, grandmother, mother, aunt, sister and friend to many to the best of her earthly ability. She loved her husband, Marshall. He wanted to thank her for her devotion as a wife and homemaker for 46 years, and for the 30 years he worked at Norfolk Southern. She doted on her son, Barry, who loved her with all his heart. She will be missed.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2012, in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
